BASIS.ed Texas is seeking a Vice President of Finance candidate to join its growing team! This role would be providing their experience and expertise to lead the financial services team at the BASIS.ed Texas Central Office. Ideal candidates will be located in San Antonio or Austin.

Position Summary:

The Vice President of Finance will oversee the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of the company’s financial services and departments, supporting and promoting profitable goals and objectives. This role will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer of BASIS.ed Texas.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with other executive staff, and skilled and trusted departmental employees, develops, implements, operates, maintains, and controls the essential operating systems, information, and financial business of the company
  • Defines and implements key performance indicators and strategic objectives for the division and, as appropriate, the entire organization; facilitates measurement of those objectives, reporting results to the executive team
  • Access capital markets and secure financing to support on-going growth initiatives
  • Analyze and plan to promote continued profitability and assess opportunities for growth including maintenance of dynamic forecasting models and new school pro forma models
  • Identify opportunities for revenue growth, process improvement and profitability growth; assist with preparing grant applications and budgets and work with school leaders to ensure compliance with program requirements
  • Assist school leaders to prepare budgets, maintain payroll trackers and analyze results; ensure reporting needs are met
  • Meet periodically with school leaders to support financial systems training and assist in monitoring actual to budget results
  • Ensure compliance with service agreements, debt covenant compliance and continuing disclosure requirements
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts and assist with liquidity management
  • Prepare accurate, relevant, and timely quarterly financial reports and variance analyses for management and the BASIS Texas Charter School’s Board of Directors
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls to safeguard assets and mitigate risk
  • Ability to manage staff with responsibility and accountability for performance and results
  • Assist with external audits as necessary
  • Drafts and implements policies and best practices to support achievement of objectives and required standards
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, local, and organizational laws, regulations, guidelines, and best practices, including but not limited to tax laws, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), federal acquisition regulations (FAR), and cost accounting standards (CAS)
  • Other duties as required

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains management and professional-level staff
  • Oversees the schedules and responsibilities of managerial staff in the department
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations

  • Thorough knowledge of financial and legal best practices and requirements with a proven ability to provide sound and ethical financial counsel to executive leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze strategic opportunities
  • Willing and flexible to assume additional responsibilities as needed

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Must be able to travel

Education and Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; MBA or CPA preferred
  • 10 - 15 years of financial management and team leadership experience
  • Certified Public Accountant status highly desired
  • At least ten years of experience in the financial function of a company required
  • Expertise in capital market activities, particularly tax-exempt financing
  • Experience with Education industry, CMOs or EMOs highly desired
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficient in Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated success in hiring, training, and mentoring
