Our schools offer students an education that prepares them according to the highest, most rigorous international standards.
Our teachers are part of one of the nation’s most collaborative and professional learning communities. All of our schools use the acclaimed BASIS Charter School Curriculum. At the same time, our teachers are given the autonomy and academic freedom to teach in the manner that suits them. They choose how best to create dynamic lessons that foster student enthusiasm for new ideas and high-level learning. They help guide students to reach their greatest potential while preparing them for the demands of higher education, a rewarding career, and global citizenship. BASIS Charter School teachers spend their time teaching engaged students and teaming up with fellow educators -- creating an intellectual, inspiring, supportive, and collegial school community.
Subject Expert Teachers (SETs) are able to focus their teaching on a specific subject rather than preparing lessons for several subjects every day. They work collaboratively with the Learning Expert Teachers (LETs) to cultivate a joyful learning culture where hard work is celebrated and where intellectual pursuits result in extraordinary student outcomes. As a Subject Expert Teacher, your primary responsibility is to develop engaging, content-rich subject specific lesson plans aligned with BASIS curriculum standards.
MUSIC-PRIMARY COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to provide essential experiences in the five conceptual areas of music: rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and expression. Students will learn each elemental area through a wide range of musical processes: moving, speaking/singing, listening, playing, reading/notating, and creating/improvising. Students will be given the opportunity throughout the school year to present material and concepts they have learned in class. The goals of our elementary music education program are to develop good musicianship, provide each child with a solid foundation for further music study and appreciation, and ultimately to enrich the lives of children - aesthetically, socially, academically, and personally.
MUSIC-SECONDARY COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course will provide strings students with challenging and varied repertoire while also studying music history and theory concepts. Students will work as an ensemble to continue developing their music skills including posture, tone, technique, intonation, articulation, dynamics, blend, balance, expression, and overall musicianship. Students will study music theory concepts such as written theory, aural skills, sight singing, and composition. Music history will be explored through learning about composers and listening to major musical works from various style periods.
