POSITION SUMMARY 
The role of the Middle School Biology/Chemistry Teacher (SET) is to ensure the day-to-day exceptional education of students by preparing and facilitating subject specific lesson plans. Subject Expert Teachers implement the established BASIS Curriculum while tailoring specific topics to integrate their knowledge and passion for the subject. 

BIOLOGY 6 COURSE DESCRIPTION:  
This course will introduce students to the study of living things starting with the most basic unit of life, the cell. Students will learn about organization of cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems in complex organisms in the context of the human body. Students will discover the anatomy and physiology of the organ systems that allow for movement, coordination, circulation, digestion, excretion, immunity, and reproduction. The main goal of the course is to help students understand the importance of homeostasis in living things and what can happen when diseases interfere with the functions of human organ systems. Throughout the course, students will develop note-taking skills and the ability to analyze complex systems and their interactions. These skills will serve as the curricular foundation for the following years. 
 

BIOLOGY 7 COURSE DESCRIPTION:  
In this course, students will explore the diversity of life. Students expand on their understanding of the characteristics of life as well as the fundamental unit of life, the cell, by investigating the structures and processes of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. In addition, as students examine the process of natural selection and how populations change over time, they evaluate the evidence that supports evolution by natural selection. Students distinguish between the various taxa used in classifying organisms as they survey the various kingdoms including Eubacteria, Archaebacteria, Protist, Fungi, Plantae, and Animalia. Finally, students examine the relationships organisms have with biotic and abiotic factors within their ecosystems. Throughout the year, with evolution as the unifying theme, students recognize the underlying concepts leading to the vast diversity of life that exists on Earth. 

BIOLOGY 8 COURSE DESCRIPTION:  
In this course, students will delve into their study of living things at the high school level by building on the basics learned in previous courses. Students will further their comprehension of cells by learning more about cellular processes and the maintenance of homeostasis. Additionally, students will continue their study of plant processes by learning the biochemistry of photosynthesis. Additional topics will be introduced in preparation for AP Biology, such as genetics, the structure and replication of DNA, and gene expression. Evolutionary and ecological concepts will be reinforced, especially in the context of genetics. Through a variety of activities in these topics, students will continue to hone their scientific investigation skills throughout the year. 

CHEMISTRY 6 COURSE DESCRIPTION:  
Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of chemistry and scientific inquiry. Students will learn about the structure and properties of matter, the organization of the periodic table, chemical bonding, physical and chemical changes, and molar quantities. Students will explore these concepts through laboratory activities and demonstrate proper safety procedures and techniques. 

CHEMISTRY 7 COURSE DESCRIPTION:  
Students will deepen their understanding of the chemistry concepts learned in sixth grade. Students will practice using the language and nomenclature of chemistry in measurements and with the representation of chemical reactions using balanced chemical equations. Students will also apply mathematics to solve numerical problems relating to the application of chemical concepts. Students in this course will attain this in-depth knowledge through hands-on laboratory activities. 

CHEMISTRY 8 COURSE DESCRIPTION:  
Students will study the basic principles of atomic structure, elements, compounds, molar quantities, and the periodic table. Students will also be introduced to high school level concepts such as gas laws, stoichiometry, and types of reactions.

• Prepare and facilitate subject and grade specific lesson plans 

• Provide subject instruction on a higher level than grade-standard in an interactive learning environment to achieve exceptional results for all students 

• Implement the BASIS Curriculum by designing effective and creative lessons and assessments to ensure students' education is internationally competitive 

• Collaborate with other BASIS Curriculum teachers to further develop curriculum/subject material and build a community of like-minded professionals passionate about? education 

• Tutor students in content-specific knowledge and skills to heighten the trajectory of students' academic and career success 

• Manage student behavior to foster academic achievement, personal responsibility, intellect, individuality, and respect in all students 

• Participate in extracurricular programs, such as clubs and sports 

• Substitute for peer courses as needed 

• Support the execution of non-instructional functions, such as "Early Bird," "Late Bird," and lunch 

• Maintain regular, full, predictable attendance 

• Supervise individual students and/or groups of students 

• Other duties as assigned

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS 
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related subject from an accredited college or university (or 24+ credit hours in applicable subject matter with other degree) 
Certifications and Credentials: NOTE: All employees of BASIS.ed Texas are required to obtain and maintain DPS clearance. 
Experience: None 
Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Suite 

Preferred Education: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Biology or related subject.

Benefits and Salary: Starting Teacher Salary is $41,000 and is negotiable dependent on education and experience. BASIS.ed offers a comprehensive benefits package.
